🇬🇧 It’s been 8 years

Hello folks! How is the life going?

Today marks exactly 8 years since we got marreid in Cuba. Yes, we are still here. Yes, we are ok 🙂

The life has been as usual. Cuba has been as usual as well. Big power shortages and even more people leaving. At this point we have more Cuban family in the US than in Cuba. Sad but true. What always amazes me is that everybody is leaving. Older people as well. Which makes me think what is their plan. Is it truly better start from zero at that age? Stuff is expensive in the US, also the healthcare. How is this better solution. I get asked a lot in Cuba why don’t we take my mother in law to live with us in Poland. But like, it’s not just another mouth to feed. The costs of living of a family of 2 and 3 (especially adults ony) are 2 different things. I wonder if we don’t do it because I’m Polish and more careful when it comes to finances. Cubans don’t think that way at all. Parole aka humanitarian visas are going strong at least until the next US election and Cubans think leave and take all the family with them is the only option. Anway…

This wasn’t supposed be my rant about situation in Cuba. In the end we secured our house there and plan to spend more time in the next year. As you see we may be the few who are trying to go the opposite direction. However it’s true that we can afford this because we don’t live in Cuba currently and can secure our income and savings so when we do go we are living the more comfortable life.

But 8 years today guys. We already went for our anniversary trip to Crete earlier this month. Greece has become our happy place on this side of the world. But since a lot of you are in the beggining of your Cuban- non Cuban journey I thought it would be fun to do a little of summary of these 8 years together. So during the last 8 years:

  • we have had 2 dogs and 6 cats (7 if you count the one in Cuba)
  • we went to Cuba 7 times and sspent there together 14 months
  • we visit Portugal and Greece ( 5 times)
  • we bought a house in Cuba
  • Fidel still hasn’t learnt fluent Polish 🫠
  • we are still childfree
  • we changed jobs few times
  • we spent so much more we wished for stuff for Cuba
  • we lived in 3 different places but finally here and in Cuba we end up with houses on the countryside
  • Cuban mentality still makes me crazy sometimes but I still go back for more 😂
  • we still have separate bank accounts 😈

And I’m going to wrap this up. We are going out tonight to celebrate. 🥂
